How COVID-19 affects GI_Week2020

At this point, it is impossible to fully assess the scope and impact of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the state of GI_Forum 2020 is uncertain. We currently continue our regular planning efforts, while constantly monitoring the latest developments.
We will contact you again with an update in the week after April 20 and will thereby inform you in due course if and how GI_Forum can take place this summer.

Information for Authors: please note that all GI_Forum Journal contributions will be published under any circumstances, therefore all previously communicated deadlines apply.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you might have at office@gi-forum.org

GI_Forum as Green Meeting – what we do

It is our „green vision“ to organize GI_Forum according to the principles of environmental compatibility and sustainability. With our activities, we want to contribute to a world where people deal responsibly with our ecosystem, and our natural and human resources. We are undertaking measures that contribute to the protection of our environment and climate. You are invited to contribute actively to the protection of our environment; please note our “green tips”!

Green Location

The Faculty of Natural Sciences (NAWI) at the University of Salzburg is a green location. Enjoy its directly accessible green spaces, its own botanic garden and the neighboring landscape conservation area. Experience GI_Forum as an “event in harmony with nature”!

Travel Green

Through its central location and excellent connection to the public transportation network the NAWI is easily reachable from your hotel.

Travel to Salzburg eco-friendly by train (the “Deutsche Bahn” and the “ÖBB”). The local public transportation system offers our participants a continuous and direct connection with emission-free city buses from the city center, the train station and the airport to the conference venue.

What you can do: The first 100 participants who arrive by public transport will receive a free three-day ticket of the “Salzburger Verkehrsverbund” for the core zone of Salzburg upon presentation of their ticket.

 Stay Green

Many hotels and guesthouses are located nearby our venue. Check out our special offers as well as the indicated distances to the NAWI and find especially awarded Green Hotels.

Act Green

Return your card holder at the end of the conference at our conference registration office. We are happy to take back your conference bag as well.

What you can do: Fast, agile and without parking problems: arrive at your destination quickly and eco-friendly by using one of our free bicycles. Check at the Infopoint for details.

You can also book a bike for the entire week and navigate through Salzburg with the “Radlkarte” – a special bike navigation app. There are sufficient bicycle parking slots available right in front of the University.

Travelling to Salzburg

The Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Salzburg can easily be reached by bike or on foot. Salzburg’s famous old town as well as the adjacent landscape conservation area are only a few walking minutes away.

  • Long Distance Bus > Timetable Flixbus
  • Driving to Salzburg: Austrian highways are toll roads, a special vignette is required. Check out the current >fees.

For your navigation system:
Street: Hellbrunnerstrasse 34
City: Salzburg
ZIP code: 5020

  • Salzburg Airport: catch a taxi right outside of the airport, or catch a bus to the venue

Accessibility

The Faculty of Natural Sciences is almost completely barrier-free. Feel free to call us or send us an email (office@gi-forum.org) to receive detailed information. In case you need a sign-language translator, please contact us at least 4 weeks prior to the beginning of the event.
